I’ve read that they receive multiple coats of lacquer. The matte finish on the Blackwing is velvety and luxuriant. For a second, I thought “These are too nice to use.” But only for a second. These aren’t the pencils we grew up with in school. From the matte black finish of the barrel to the unique ferrule, you get the impression that no corners have been cut. When you open the carton you’re met with the wonderful aroma of cedar. These are priced as a premium product ($28CDN), and clearly look the part. The “Regular” is what I’ll be talking about here. There are also quarterly, limited-edition volumes that focus on a cultural icon or event. Blackwing doesn’t grade their leads, and all lean to the softer side. Going from firmest to softest: 602, Pearl, and Regular. There are a few variants of the Blackwing. I purchased a box of 12 from Wonder Pens in Toronto-one of the few shops in Canada to carry them. Were they really that good? Would opening a box of them be accompanied by a chorus of singing angels? I had to find out. They’re then sent to California where the eraser assembly is attached. The pencils are made in Japan with incense cedar and waxed graphite. To the relief of the pencil community, California Cedar Products bought the Blackwing brand, and released the Blackwing 602 under its Palomino division in 2011. The original Blackwing went out of production in 1998. This was the pencil used by legendary animator Chuck Jones and author John Steinbeck. Their claim was it had the wear of an HB lead, but had the smoothness of a 3B/4B. Eberhard Faber first began production of the Blackwing 602 in the early 1930s. To begin with, each pencil is made using genuine incense-cedar wood & finished with several layers of lacquer, making them ideal for use anywhere, including the studio, home & out in the field.Įncased in this reinforced wood is a premium Japanese graphite, carefully blended & crafted using clay for strength & wax for a smooth, comfortable finish.Īnd finally, all Blackwing pencils feature an iconic, rectangular ferrule. When I started doing lettering and illustration, I came across a lot of references to the Blackwing. Of course, the design is timeless but there are several features that separate these from other pencils! Then in 2010, due to the obvious immense customer demand, they were brought back into circulation for the modern generation.Īnd now, here at Cowling & Wilcox, you can experience these legendary pencils for yourself & find out why people have been so desperate to get their hands on them! however, this only lead the truly devoted to head online & spend upwards of $40 a pencil! Originally introduced in the 1930s, Blackwing pencils very quickly gained a cult following amongst creatives, with notable examples including author John Steinbeck & cartoonist Chuck Jones (who proudly used them to create Bugs Bunny & other Looney Tunes characters).ĭespite this, due to cost-cutting measures, these were discontinued in the 90s. The included gift box doubles as a desktop pencil cup, making a wonderful addition to anyone's arsenal of materials. This set of 12 makes the perfect present for the artist in your life (or yourself, we don't judge!). Ideal for anyone preferring a soft, dark line, the Blackwing Matte is the softest of the four core Blackwing models.Įach pencil features a timeless matte black finish, iconic square Blackwing ferrule and black eraser.

Using a "Tri-Titanium" alloy compromised of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium, the Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs has a strength-to-weight ratio 40% greater than comparable tripods in its class. You should consider this tripod.Original Product Guaranteed - Imported from USA Though the clamps on my previous U212 lasted 10 years of rough use. I wish they were metal rather than plastic. The only reservation I have are with the design of the leg clamps. I give the SLIK Pro 700X 5 stars because it is an excellent value, gets the job done by providing a stable platform, ease of use, and good portability. The 700X is a goo match for the F4's weight and should work well with video camera's. The F4 is built like a tank, the best camera ever made, but you know when it is around your neck. The SLIK Pro 700X is a good tool to help securely stabilize these heavy cameras. Digital is greatly improved by still can not match the tonal and color range of film. It is quicker to use and when you flip the lever you know it's locked. I prefer the clamp to the twist type mechanisms. The clamps seems to be a stronger plastic material then what was used on the U212. This is the same mechanism that finally cracked and failed on the U212. There are two clamps on each leg that compresses the fitting that secures the leg tubing. The leg length adjustment may be an issue as the tripod ages. The legs do not have spikes, which is preferred these days because spikes will not get through airport security. I can fold up the tripod in about 15 seconds and it's of a convenient size to strap onto either my backpack or shoulder bag. I've found after a couple of months use this is not really an issue and I've been able to provide a stable platform by adjusting the leg length on hilly terrain. e U212 had continuous adjustment for the leg spread mechanism whereas the 700DX has two slots at the leg head for spread adjustment. The 700DX costs about the same but is lighter though somewhat less versatile. I selected the SLIK Pro 700DX as a replacement for my SLIK U212 which lasted with heavy use for over 10 years. Alternatively, amazon sells the original books in kindle and paper editions. Doesn’t require friends or the social interaction of DnD but offers the same kind of adventure! Oh boy!Īpparently there is (or was) a “Fabled Lands” mobile app from the original author, but I think it’s only for a few of the books. If I was old enough in the early 90s, I’m sure this is exactly the kind of game I would play. I’m sure there are people on this forum who are already familiar with it. Among other things, you can own ships and sail across the sea to other continents while discovering new islands and avoiding pitfalls like pirates and mutiny. IMO, the player’s choices seem to have more effect on the world state and game than something like, say, Oblivion, which is probably the benefit of not having to graphically render every little thing. The world genuinely felt vast, open, and alive, which is amazing to me considering that the original books came out long before CRPGs and the like. I ended up sinking a lot of time into it. It’s an open world text-based choice game that is worth checking out just to have a model for similar games in choicescript. It’s free, but requires that you download Java. It’s essentially the same as the original, except it eliminates pen-and-paper record keeping and a copious amount of page turning. It’s a javascript app developed using the “Fabled Lands” sourcebooks. After some googling, I found this link I’m offering up for those interested. I heard about “Fabled Lands” for the first time from a reply on this forum. The Canon PIXMA TS7450 is an all-in-one colour inkjet printer, scanner and copier, aimed at home users, families and students.Įasy to use and versatile, the PIXMA TS7450 is both cheap to buy and reasonably cheap to run. Should you need it, there’s a USB-B port on the back for a wired connection too. There’s also the HP Smart desktop and iOS apps, which allow you to run diagnostic tests and print files from Apple iCloud. The device is easy to set up and configure thanks to AirPrint support, and it’s straightforward to send print jobs to the 7200e via Wi-Fi from your MacBook. The only other drawback is the lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF), although the 1200×1200 dpi scanner, which takes around 12-15 seconds to scan at 300dpi, means the Envy Inspire 7200e can act as a photocopier. While the Envy Inspire 7200e can print on A4, A5, A6 and B5 plain paper, it’s limited to 10x15cm, 13x13cm and 13x18cm glossy paper sizes – that’s fine if you’re only looking to print holiday photos, but a shame if you wanted to print on A4 glossy. Busier users who need to print hundreds of pages every month will be better off with an HP Instant Ink subscription – most places selling the Envy Inspire 7200e will bundle in six months of free Instant Ink. The Envy Inspire 7200e can also take the larger XL-sized cartridges, which are better value for money. HP Envy Inspire 7200e is a compact all-in-one inkjet printer which excels at producing crisp text documents and colour images including glossy photos quickly.Ĭosting just over £100 to buy, the HP Envy Inspire 7200e is reasonably cheap to run as well, as it uses two HP 303 cartridges (black, and tri-colour), so replacing empties is less hassle than a four- or five-cartridge printer would be. Of course, Macs have always been used for creative tasks such as graphic design and photo editing, so many Mac users may prefer to opt for a more specialised printer that is designed for graphics and photographic work. So it’s always worth checking the technical info on the manufacturer’s web site to make sure that the Mac software provided with the printer includes all the same features as the Windows equivalent. One common weakness is printer software that provides duplex printing – two-sided printing, on both sides of the page – for Windows, but not on the Mac. The problem here lies in the driver software that controls the printer, which may be different on Macs and PCs. Most printers these days are Mac-compatible, but we have seen quite a few printers that work better with Windows PCs. Mac featuresĬhoosing the right printer is particularly important for Mac users, and owners of an iPhone or iPad. At the other end of the spectrum there are specialised photo printers that may use five or six different coloured inks in order to produce really colourful, high-quality photo prints. But we're supposed to return to the colony before sundown or, you know, Dad's gonna. We don't want to throw this in with the garbage. Well, throw it on the pile, I guess, and then we'll. This rosemary! This rosemary with maybe with a few drops from this sweet grass. Tomme de chèvre de pays! That would go beautifully with my mushroom. What have you got there? You found cheese? And not just any cheese. But if Dad sees you walking like that, he's not going to like it. When I eat, I don't want to taste everywhere my paws have been. Did you ever think about how we walk on the same paws that we handle food with? You ever think about what we put into our mouths? All the time. Why are you walking like that? I don't want to constantly have to wash my paws. He doesn't understand me, but I can be myself around him. The only one who knew about it was Emile. But combine one flavor with another, and something new was created. You need only be aware to stop and savor it. GUS TEAU ON TV: How can I describe it? Good food is like music you can taste, color you can smell. I mean, just look at what they do with food. I know I'm supposed to hate humans, but there's something about them. Secondly, stay out of the kitchen and away from the humans. Look, if we're going to be thieves, why not steal the good stuff in the kitchen, where nothing is poisoned? First of all, we are not thieves. You get picky about what you put in the tank, your engine is gonna die. This much I knew: If you are what you eat, then I only want to eat the good stuff. If no one wants it, why are we stealing it? Let's just say we have different points of view. And what we're stealing is, let's face it, garbage. Now, don't you feel better, Remy? You've helped a noble cause. I was feeling pretty good about my gift, until Dad gave me a job. Suddenly, Dad didn't think my talent was useless. So, what's wrong with having highly developed senses? - Don't eat that! - What's going on here? Turns out that funny smell was rat poison. He also happens to be the leader of our clan. So you can smell ingredients? So what? This is my dad. Whoa, you can smell all that? You have a gift. And second, I have a highly developed sense of taste and smell. What's my problem? First of all, I'm a rat. I think it's apparent I need to rethink my life a little bit. I, on the other hand, take cooking seriously. Amusing title, Anyone Can Cook! What's even more amusing is that Gusteau actually seems to believe it. Chef Gusteau's cookbook, Anyone Can Cook! Climbed to the top of the bestseller list. He is the youngest chef ever to achieve a five-star rating. And his dazzling ascent to the top of fine French cuisine has made his competitors envious. Gusteau's restaurant is the toast of Paris, booked five months in advance. And the best food in Paris, some say, is made by Chef Auguste Gusteau. The best food in France is made in Paris. I hope you enjoy the onion pie.Although each of the world's countries would like to dispute this fact, we French know the truth: The best food in the world is made in France. Some other recipes I would like to make include a maple-walnut fudge, Portobello Wellington, Toffee Almond Popcorn, and the famous Wisconsin State Fair Cream Puffs, which I have actually enjoyed at the Wisconsin State years ago when we took our girls there for a fun summer adventure. The chives are my addition because I have some in my garden and I liked the splash of color. The pie was delicious! So full of flavor and easy to make using an all-ready pie crust. Kelley is Paul Kelley who was in charge of QVC’s 50 in 50 Tour, and known as “The Traveling QVC Ambassador.” I had a huge bag of onions in my pantry just waiting for a recipe like this. Bernard thinks the Director is bluffing, but just before entering the Reservation, he finds out from Helmholtz that the Director is serious. Embarrassed to have let slip such information, the Director threatens to reassign Bernard to Iceland. The Director signs a permit to allow Bernard to visit the Savage Reservation with Lenina, and as he does so, he reminisces about his own trip to the Reservation 20 years earlier: there was a storm, and his female companion disappeared. Bernard is miserably aware that he is the only person who didn’t find the Service fulfilling. After taking soma, the 12 attendees engage in solidarity chants, working themselves into an ecstatic frenzy as they call out to “our Ford” and then collapse in an orgy. While Lenina goes on her date with Henry, Bernard attends his biweekly Solidarity Service. Bernard is dissatisfied because he is self-conscious about being small, while Helmholtz is so exceptional at everything he does that he’s begun to feel stifled. Bernard then visits his friend Helmholtz Watson. Later, in the elevator, Lenina accepts Bernard's invitation to accompany him to the Savage Reservation in New Mexico. Acknowledging the need to become more promiscuous, Lenina decides to also date Bernard Marx, even though he is a bit small and strange for an alpha.īernard, meanwhile, is outraged as he listens to Henry Foster and another man have a perfectly “normal” discussion about "having" Lenina. In the Hatchery changing rooms, Lenina Crowne, a nurse, is criticized by her friend Fanny for only dating one man, Henry Foster. He lectures the students on the World State's creation and its success in creating happiness and stability by eliminating from society all intense emotions, desires, and relationships. The students and the Director get a special treat when Mustapha Mond, one of the 10 World Controllers, joins the tour. The Director calls such conditioning “the secret to all happiness and virtue.” Each caste is conditioned differently, but all castes are conditioned to seek instant gratification, to be sexually promiscuous, to engage in economic consumption, and to use the drug soma to escape from all unpleasant experiences. The Director also shows how each individual is conditioned both before and after "birth" to conform to the moral rules of the World State and to enjoy his or her predetermined job. The Director shows how the five castes of World State society are created, from Alphas and Betas, who lead the society, down to the physically and intellectually inferior Deltas, Gammas, and Epsilons, who do menial labor. The Director of the Central London Hatcheries leads a group of students on a tour of the facilities, where babies are produced and grown in bottles (birth is non-existent in the World State). So, this app helps you focus on that skill to bring it up to a whole new level. We all know that being able to read sheet music is an invaluable talent for any musician. Music tutor is considered a pro music app suited for successful musical theory learning. It can teach you how to decode standard musical notation and can also help you learn to read sheet music with an emphasis on sight-reading skills. In the rhythm section, you can familiarize yourself with rhythmical figures that get progressively more complex or practice how to keep the beat. You can also practice the identification of scales and chords. In the ear training section, you’ll be able to practice your aural skills through intervals identification and comparison, intervals singing, and intervals sight-reading. You can also access the theoretical explanation of each topic through ear training and the rhythm sections. The theory section provides the rudiments of intervals, scales, chords, modes, rhythm, and the circle of fifths. Let’s have a closer look at every section. It also has some bonus exercises to make you excel at specific music skills. Perfect Ear is divided into three main sections: theory, ear training, and rhythm. We recommend the latter, which is really cheap but full of functionalities. So this app is something you must have if you are on singing lessons, trying to learn how to read music, studying music scales, playing violin music or reading piano sheet music.Perfect Ear is a comprehensive Music Theory and Ear Training app you can use in plenty of ways.Īvailable for both Android and iOS, it comes in either the free or the premium version. Perfect pitch is not a requirement to enter a music school because there will be ear training lessons. How to play guitar or how to play piano is not just a matter of moving your fingers, it has a lot to do with listening and knowing what you are listening to. Playing piano music or guitar music is better done when you have a clear idea about music notes values and pitch.Įar training is vital to understand music theory. If you are taking guitar lessons or piano lessons this app will be very useful for you. Ear training helps you to read a sheet music without an instrument and knowing how it sounds. Being able to listen some music notes and knowing whats going on in terms of pitch and duration is an important ability for a musician. SECTION “C” contains ten rhythmic lessons and ten melodic lessons. It is also important to be able to identify the highest note in a melody. The emphasis in Section “C” is to be able to repeat what you hear rhythmically. You just listen the rhythm or the melody and you play it or you sing it. Sometimes you play songs without the need to read a sheet music. On the melodic exercises of this section you will listen a series of sounds and you have to recognize the higher one. Rhythmic exercises on this section are to practice the ability to reproduce a rhythmic combination just by listening to it. SECTION “C” has a different type of ear training exercises which are not related to any written music. There is a maximum of 15 right guesses per exercise. For each time you click on the right choice you get one point. If you click on the wrong choice the exercise will not advance so that you can hear it again and recognize the right choice. You can repeat the exercise as many times as you want before clicking. You will hear a musical idea and you will see two scores. Each lesson is integrated by fifteen exercises. SECTION “C” has ten rhythmic lessons and ten melodic lessons. SECTION “B” has twenty rhythmic lessons and twenty melodic lessons. SECTION “A” has twenty rhythmic lessons and twenty melodic lessons. He chooses to have a wider range of appreciation, which is what people like B-Doe lack. “I was like, you know what? I’m gonna create a project and call it ‘Mumble Rap.’ And hopefully, God willing, if it becomes some classic s–t, then every time people a few years from now think of the words ‘mumble rap,’ they’re gonna think of a classic rap project.” “When I get into an interview and everybody’s like, ‘So what do you think about these mumble rappers?’ It just got annoying to me after a while,” Belly said. He wanted to find a way to deflect the negativity, so he got innovative. And they’re putting numbers up,” Belly said, referencing the targets of the term. He discussed the idea behind the title in an interview on Tidal’s Rap Radar Podcast. Belly, a signee of The Weeknd’s XO label, dropped an album called “Mumble Rap” on Friday, Oct. The term is a way to demean certain rappers because they don’t align with what some believe is “traditional” rap. As long as it’s appealing to somebody,” Savage said. “So if what I’m doing appeals to her and not you, how can you categorize it as not rap or rap?” In a July 2017 interview on Complex’s show “Everyday Struggle,” Savage made his viewpoint known about the judgmental gatekeepers of rap’s foundation.“Music is art, right?” Savage began. He has a fairly strong southern drawl, but he doesn’t slur his words. Because all that means is we don’t understand what you’re saying because you have an accent.” Staples continued, “How is 21 Savage mumbling? This man is over-enunciating his words.”Ģ1 Savage, a rapper from Atlanta, has been lumped into the “mumble rap” category at times, as Staples mentioned. In an early 2017 interview with radio station WE 96.3, Staples said, “Mumble rap just means you have a Southern accent, which is foul as f–k. Vince Staples, a rapper from Long Beach, California, is known for having more controversial perspectives. It doesn’t matter how profound the words are if they’re said in an unappealing way. Why can’t thinking of a catchy melody or a flow that makes people flip out with excitement be considered genius?ĭelivery, cadence and flow are just as important as lyrics themselves. Second, there are various forms of genius ability. For one, he says “assumption,” meaning there is no concrete, factual list of a rapper’s components. This is a meaningless and detrimental attempt at making a point. Do you think you’re a genius, or are you just riding a wave?”ī-Doe tries to equate hip hop art with artistry in general. “Some synonyms for artist is virtuoso, genius. “With being a hip hop artist comes the assumption that you are competent, proficient and gifted at words,” B-Doe said. Each individual has a unique taste, and no matter what someone says about it, they can’t decide what you should or shouldn’t like.ī-Doe also includes an argument in the video that dismantles his entire stance.
